So yes. Podcasts. People talking on the internet for you to listen to at your leisure. Included is a link to their iTunes interface, and RSS feed, if iTunes isn’t your thing. The Bugle John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman skewer the headlines with a wonderful British wit. iTunes / RSS You Look Nice Today Hosted by Merlin Mann (hotdogsladies), a productivity guru and general nerd originally from Florida gets together Adam Lisagor (lonelysandwhich) and Scott Simpson (scottsimpson) to basically shoot the shit and brainstorm about off the wall topics, such as the pedophilia rampant in the game of chess, designing a signature drink (The Aunt Nancy, it has a chicken wing attached to it) and what to do with the elderly in America. This is pretty much the bizarre conversations my friends and I have, but consistently funnier. iTunes / RSS

This American Life A wonderful program that most folks already know of that I recently discovered, This American Life collects stories from across the nation. Some are educational, others bizzare and hilarious. Others are both endearing and heartbreaking. You never know what topic will be discussed by host Ira Glass. iTunes / RSS

There’s three for now, I’ll periodically add more to this list as I find the time to check out others. If you already subscribe or just wanna call me a fag, feel free to comment.

Two Guys In A Car: A Series

// July 31st, 2008 // View Comments // TGIAC, Technology

TGIAC is going to be an ongoing series, based upon conversations between Phil and I as we travel to and from work/lunch/etc.

Today we conceptualized a brand new productivity/shopping app called Kytchen Sync.  Using the camera on your smartphone or iPhone, you scan the barcodes on your purchases at the grocery store.  It would interpret the barcode, and pull up a variety of information on the items.  Major features include:

  • Track shopping habits and generate grocery lists based upon often bought foodstuffs
  • Pull up nutritional information on food while you shop
  • Track price information and sales by comparing prices of goods with sites such as Amazon.com and thecouponclippers.com

Here’s a couple poorly rendered early concept photos:

Scribefire. . .more like. . .Poopfire

Scribefire, a very excellent blogging tool I’ve been using for some time seems to have borked when it comes to interacting with WordPress.  Spent most of the afternoon, as well as the past few hours searching for a solution.  Keep getting the error:

“The server returned a malformed response.  Please check that your blog and API URLs are correct.”

So yes.  That’s annoying, as one of the nicer feature of Scribefire was the ability to post entries to multiple sites simultaneously.  Looks like I’ll have to bug Phil to give me a hand with this one.  I’ll likely be buying a few books on beginners web dev, so if you have any suggestions, they’d be appreciated.

Hello World.

// July 30th, 2008 // View Comments // Uncategorized

I’ve decided to start this site for a few reasons.

  • I wanted to finally snag my own domain
  • I’m finding that LiveJournal really doesn’t do it for me
  • I want to play around with some web dev stuff
  • All the cool kids have their own website

So this is where I’ll be posting most of the time now.  I’ve been writing more often with actual content, rather than my old “oh woe is me” rants on LiveJournal.  Here’s where I’ll be throwing up photos, rants, commentary on news and entertainment, with a healthy sprinkling of puns throughout.

Some things may wind up being double-posted to both ToC and my LiveJournal, as I know some folks solely follow my goings-on through it.

Enjoy.
